New Netflix Instant Streaming for June 3, 2013

Well I took last week off to do a lot of work around the house and wasn’t online much. Got almost everything done, but one project took much longer than expected. Here’s a hint: when working with electricity and your switch says it needs an “earth ground,” it means it has to be grounded to the earth. Like a pipe or some metal that goes into the dirt. It’s just a stupid timer switch, why does it need all that? Anyway….

  • Apocalypse Now (1979) If you haven’t seen this, stop what you’re doing, drop some acid, and watch it immediately. As my brother says, “That’s not a war movie, it’s a head trip movie!”
  • At Close Range (1986) Sean Penn, Christopher Walken, Mary Stuart Masterson, and Crispin Glover in this dark crime tale.
  • Bedazzled (1967) Director Stanley Donen (Charade) with Peter Cook, Dudley Moore and Raquel Welch in this cult classic.
  • Behind the Mask (1958)
  • Brubaker (1980) Robert Redford in a prison corruption movie. I think he likes corruption.
  • Capone (The Revenge of Al Capone) (1989) Keith Carradine, Ray Sharkey and Debrah Farentino.
  • Carmen Jones (1954) One of the earliest A-films with a Black cast. Harry Belafonte, Dorothy Dandridge, and the fabulous Pearl Bailey directed by Otto Preminger. Looks like it could be film noir or maybe blaxploitation.
  • Carry On Cleo (1964)
  • Carry On Cowboy (1966)
  • Chain Gang Women (1971) Don’t get too excited.
  • The Club (1980) Australian Rules football, which is nuts.
  • Dead Men Don’t Wear Plaid (1982) I really need to see this. I love noir spoofs.
  • Death Is a Woman (1966) Great name, I doubt the movie lives up to it.
  • Disco Godfather (1979) I’m sure I listed this one not too long ago. Such a fantastic name for a movie!
  • The Escape Artist (1982) Raul Julia, Desi Arnaz, and Teri Garr.
  • A bunch of Friday the 13ths. How on earth did so many get made?
  • The Gospel Road: A Story of Jesus (1973) Johnny Cash made this movie about Jesus and his visit to The Holy Land and uses music from June Carter Cash, John Denver, and Kris Kristofferson. Kinda slow, but of interest to Johnny Cash fans and those interested in portrayals of the life of Christ.
  • Hammett (1982) What if hard-boiled writer Dashell Hammett found himself mixed up in a real murder mystery? A made-for-TV movie shot on soundstages, but pretty good. Cast includes The wonderful Frederic Forrest, Peter Boyle, Marilu Henner, Roy Kinnear, Elisha Cook Jr. (from The Maltese Falcon!), and Lydia Lei. Directed by Wim Wenders.
  • Imitation of Life (1959) Douglas Sirk directs an all star cast in this remake of the 1934 film of the same name. Melodrama at it’s best. Lana Turner, Sandra Dee, Troy Donahue, Elinor Donahue, and a super emotional song by Mahalia Jackson.
  • Isn’t Life Wonderful! (1954) British comedy.
  • It’s All Happening (1963) British pop stars.
  • Kung-fu Gold (1975)
  • The Longest Yard (1974) Director Robert Aldrich, stars Burt Reynolds.
  • My Mom’s a Werewolf (1989) Hey, it has John Saxon, John Schuck, and Ruth Buzzi! What more could you want?
  • One from the Heart (1982) Directed by Francis Ford Coppola, and stars Frederic Forrest, Teri Garr, Raul Julia, Nastassja Kinski, Harry Dean Stanton, Jeff Hamlin and Rebecca De Mornay! But, it’s a downer movie.
  • The People That Time Forgot (1977) Based on an Edgar Rice Burroughs novel, with Patrick Wayne, Dana Gillespie, and Doug McClure.
  • Planet of the Apes (1968) The awesome original!
  • Platoon (1986)
  • Playing for Keeps (1986) Written and directed by Harvey and Bob Weinstein. Stars Marisa Tomei.
  • Project X (1987) Matthew Broderick and a chimp.
  • River of No Return (1954) Marilyn Monroe with Robert Mitchum! Directed by Otto Preminger!
  • The Serpent and the Rainbow (1988) Horror.
  • Shanghai Surprise (1986) Sean Penn and Madonna. Remember them?
  • A Shock to the System (1990) Michael Caine, Elizabeth McGovern, Peter Riegert, and Swoosie Kurtz in a black comedy.
  • The Teacher (1974) Angel Tompkins in exploitation.
  • Valley of the Dolls (1967) I think I posted the soundtrack to this once.
  • Young Sherlock Holmes (1985)
  • The Baby-Sitters Club (1990) TV show.
